I started the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt way back in January. Rachel of p.s. i quilt hosted this project. Directions for a new pinwheel block were posted every couple of weeks or so. Although she suggested using a layer cake, I decided to raid my scrap bin instead. For the first four or five blocks, I kept up pretty well. But, then I fell behind one block, and another…. pretty soon I just gave up and figured I would finish it in the summer. That didn’t happen either. But, I am happy to say that I have finally finished the top, and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.
It was fun to learn a bunch of new techniques and to incorporate so many different scraps from the bin. I did get lots of practice making pinwheels, which involve a lot of half square triangles. By the end, my points were almost always lining up perfectly!
I wondered if I would have a favorite block. I definitely do. It was one of the last ones I made, and is one of the most simple patterns. I think I could make a whole quilt out of just this block and it would be perfect!
Now I have two finished quilt tops just sitting and waiting to be finished. I haven’t decided if I am going to quilt them myself yet. Both this and the pink jelly roll quilt are pretty large. I might send them off to be quilted this time. Decisions, decisions.
